"proud to be a freak"

eine Doku von Lukas & Jasper Nicolaisen

zitiert vom Vimeo-Text:
A documentary shot at the off_pride queer festival in Zürich 2009 focusing on interviews with transgendered/queer people. Rather than problematizing transgenderism, the interviews focus on its funny and remarkable aspects, highlighting the unique perspective queer people have on a predominantly straight world. Mixed with the interviews is footage from the off_pride march meeting and departing from the Europride 2009 parade. This film is our reaction to what we see as a "freak show" bias in much of the media attention given to trans* issues. Transgenderism and queerness is still invairably portrayed as a huge challenge, problem, life-threatening event or catastrophe. While that, of course, can be true, there is another side to the story. Tans/queer people are also strong, proud, funny and in some ways wiser than others thanks to the special position they have in their societies. It is that energy that we wanted to capture here. The interviews are in German.
